Step 11: IE 8.0's SmartScreen checks the legitimacy of sites to help you avoid phishing attacks. Select Tools, SmartScreen Filter, Check This Website. IE 8.0 will check it against a list of malicious sites and let you know the verdict. SmartScreen will also warn you when you attempt to download software that could be unsafe.
Step 12: The InPrivate Browsing feature is designed to protect your privacy if you're using a shared PC, deleting your history, temporary internet files, cookies, usernames and passwords. Select Tools, InPrivate Browsing. This will open a new browser window with an InPrivate icon; this indicates it's a private session.
Step 13: InPrivate allows you to control adverts and images displayed by third-party sites as well as any information shared during your browsing. The InPrivate Blocking feature is off by default and must be turned on when an InPrivate session is opened. Select Safety, InPrivate Blocking and tick the appropriate options.
Step 14: Because IE 8.0 is new, some sites will be incompatible with it, but Microsoft has included a feature that allows you to view them correctly. Select Page and click the Compatibility View icon. This will display the page as it would look in IE 7.0, correcting problems such as misaligned text and images.
