Adobe AIR app installations exceed 25m

AOL, eBay and Atlantic Records among users

Adobe's AIR application has attracted 25 million users since it was first released six months ago, says the software company.

Adobe said AOL, eBay, Atlantic Records and the New York Times are among the companies that are using the software to develop applications for websites in a bid to interact with customers, partners and employees in new ways. For example, Atlantic Records is using Adobe AIR to develop a desktop application which allows music fans to receive the latest content from their favourite musicians in one single download. The app also features an audio player, chat room and a continuous feed of official and unofficial news, photos and videos.

"In just the first six months since release, we're already witnessing the creation of a brand new ecosystem, established by a rapidly growing base of web developers who are discovering new ways to quickly build compelling applications using Adobe AIR," said Michele Turner, vice president, product management and product marketing for the Platform business unit at Adobe.
