Symantec buys PC Tools

PC Tools product line set to live on

Security software developer Symantec has purchased PC Tools.

Full details of the transaction, which is expected to be complete by the end of 2008, have not been released. According to Symantec, the Australian-based PC Tools, which also makes security software, will continue to offer products under its brand-name.

PC Tools' product range includes Registry Mechanic, Spyware Doctor and ThreatFire.

"We are excited to welcome PC Tools into the Symantec consumer family and believe the combination of our two companies will provide additional value and choice for consumers worldwide to better enable and protect their digital life. By adding PC Tools, we firmly position ourselves for continued incremental growth in a rapidly expanding market," said Janice Chaffin, Symantec group president of consumer products.
