Twitter #Music app launches for iPhone and web

Twitter Music for Android will come 'over time'

Twitter Music for iPhone

Twitter has officially launched its Twitter #Music app, allowing users to discover new music via the social network. See our Twitter #Music review.

Twitter's Music discovery app service is now live via iPhone and web using the We Are Hunted service it acquired. Music is pulled from iTunes, Spotify and Rdio and uses Twitter activity, connections and engagement to recommend music and flag up popular tracks and artists.

Twitter said it's a "service that will change the way people find music, based on Twitter."

The app is split into four sections: Suggestes, #NowPlaying, Emerging and Popular. They’re pretty self-explanatory. You can also view artists Twitter profiles and follow them from the app.

iTunes users can get previews of tracks while Spotify and Rdio users can log in and listen to entire songs. Other music service providers will be added in the future, according to the firm.

"And as you discover new songs that you want to share with your followers on Twitter, simply tap the spinning disc in the lower left corner. This opens the player, and you can tweet from there using the Tweet icon in the top right corner." added Twitter.

Twitter said the app will be available to download from the App Store today but users can also use the service via a web browser. We can't access the web version at music.twitter.com yet but it is rolling out over the 'next few hours'.

It seems Android users will have to wait a while for Twitter Music as the social network vaguely says it will arrive 'over time'. At launch Twitter Music is available in US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand with other countries to follow, also 'over time'.
