Twitter makes trending topics more localised with additional cities

Twitter Trends

Twitter has launched Trends in 100 cities around the globe, including 12 in the UK.

The micro-blogging social network has added a century of new cities to its Trends feature. Now users can see what's happening on a more local scale. See also: Instagram removes 'cards' integration from Twitter.

Twitter said: "By viewing Trends in these cities, it’s easier than ever before to find out what’s going on in your area and to get involved in the conversations. Regional Trends give you a great flavour of what’s happening in different parts of the UK."

The list of 12 cities added in the UK is: Belfast, Brighton, Bristol, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Leeds, Leicester, Liverpool, Newcastle, Nottingham, Portsmouth and Sheffield. London, Glasgow, Birmingham and Manchester were already available.

At the time of writing the subjects and hashtags which are trending barley vary from city to city but this may change over time. See Best Android Apps.

Users can access the new locations by clicking 'Change' from within the Trends sidebar of Twitter.
