Intertek, the testing laboratories group for products from textiles to chemicals, has signed a contract to outsource its global IT and finance and accounting services to Accenture.

The aim of the contract is to enable Intertek to integrate and standardise its finance and technology functions after a period of significant growth and acquisition activity. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.

Under the agreement, Accenture will provide the technology infrastructure, application management and back-office accounting services to Intertek. It will also provide finance and accounting business process outsourcing (BPO) services from Intertek sites and Accenture's global delivery centre in Delhi, India.

"As part of our Intertek as One programme, our collaboration with Accenture will support Intertek's growing IT and accounting requirements across 10 countries [including the UK]. This change will provide an efficient, scalable platform to support Intertek's growth programme and generate near-term cost savings," said Lloyd Pitchford, chief financial officer of Intertek Group.

Accenture will implement the programme over the next two years.
