European commission signs up to BT

BT to provide broadband, Wi-Fi and security

The European Commission’s directorate general for IT has signed a framework contract with BT for the supply and management of internet access services.

The four-year deal includes options to extend the contract for a further four years. Its total value could reach €22.5m.

Under the terms of the contract, BT will supply, implement and manage a range of internet access and associated services, including internet access from at least 17 sites in Europe, Wi-Fi access, anti-spam filtering, protection against denial of service attacks, domain name registration and support for web content distribution.

The framework agreement will also allow more than 10 other EU organisations - including the European Parliament and the Council of the EU - to receive internet services from BT.
