New directors for NBN Co

Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator Stephen Conroy, and Minister for Finance and Deregulation, Senator Penny Wong, have announced the appointment of Alison Lansley and the reappointment of Terrence Francis to the board of NBN Co.

Lansley and Francis will serve as its directors as of today.

According to NBN Co, Lansley's appointment meets the government's objective to have 40 per cent women on Australian government boards by 2015.

"Her appointment brings the gender composition of the NBN Co board from 38 per cent to 44 per cent female, meeting the Government's 2010 objective," Conroy said.

Lansley has had more than 30 years' experience as a corporate lawyer and company director. She was a partner in the Mergers and Acquisitions practice of Mallesons Stephen Jaques for 16 years, and has been extensively involved in the securities market and corporate governance in Australia.

She has served on many boards, including the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games Corporation, as well as the Takeovers Panel and the National Listing Committee of the Australian Stock Exchange.

Lansley has also been a member of various government and not-for-profit boards including Business Working with Education Foundation and the Victorian Regional Council of RedKite - a charity that supports young people with cancer.

"Her appointment will deepen NBN Co's legal expertise and she will make a great contribution to the board," Conroy claimed.

Francis has more than 30 years' experience in the Australian and international business sector. His areas of expertise include project and infrastructure development, business strategy and analysis, governance and corporate finance.

His previous executive appointments in the banking industry include roles as the managing director of Bank of America in Australia, executive director of Deutsche Bank Australia and vice-president of Continental Illinois National Bank.

He is also a director of the Emergency Services Telecommunications Authority, A/NZ Specialist Asset Management and A/NZ Business Equity Fund, Boom Logistics, and the Northern Victorian Irrigation Modernisation Project.

The appointment of Lansley and the reappointment of Francis are both for three years.
