Capita to relocate hundreds of staff

TV Licensing staff see jobs moved across the country

Trade unions have branded a move by Capita, to relocate around 200 TV Licensing processing jobs, as "callous".

Capita plans to move the jobs from Bristol to Darwen in Lancashire, as well as cutting 40 separate management jobs from field operations across the country, and five from Glasgow. Some of the work will also be outsourced to India.

Affected staff are understood to have been briefed by managers today, with compulsory redundancies expected by September.

The reason for the job cuts, according to the Communications Workers Union, is to enable Capita to provide the TV Licensing processing services at the reduced cost under which it won the contract's renewal in December.

"This is devastating news for workers in Bristol, Glasgow and elsewhere and a terrible way to start 2012," said Andy Furey, CWU national official. "It's a callous act by Capita management who have put commercial interests ahead of jobs and people."

Capita had not provided comment at the time of writing.
