HCL creates 80 software delivery jobs in Ireland

Indian outsourcer beefs up European presence

Indian outsourcer HCL Technologies has established a software delivery centre in Dublin to create 80 jobs.

It's been a good month on the technology jobs front for Ireland as VMWare, the virtualisation software firm, recently opened a new development site in Cork to create 250 jobs.

The HCL software delivery unit will create 80 jobs over 3 years for IT graduates, said Ireland's inward investment organisation IDA. The centre will service HCL clients and prospects in the financial services, insurance and healthcare/pharmaceutical industries.

HCL Technologies already has established global delivery centres in the UK, Poland, Finland, US, Brazil, China, India, and Malaysia.

Rajeev Sawhney, president for HCL Europe, said: "This facility, with its specialist skills in software development including multilingual talent and proximity to our European customers, will add significant value to our global delivery model from which we can provide on- and off-shore support to meet their specific requirements."

HCL says it employs over 4,500 staff across Europe.

HCL has become embroiled in the News International phone hacking scandal through its work as an IT contractor at the media group. Lawyers acting for HCL have claimed a number of emails and folders were deleted up until June this year at the request of News International.

Stuart Benson & Company, a law firm acting for the outsourcer, has sent a letter to the Home Affairs Committee detailing the deletions. The letter does not say whether the deletion requests related to possible phone hacking.
