CIOs offered course on supplier negotiation tactics

Avoidance of being ripped off

The next generation of CIOs are being offered specialist supplier negotiating skills to help prevent them being "ripped off".

Karrass Worldwide, a negotiation tutoring firm, is to train students on City University London's Master of Information Leadership (MIL) course.

"This will ensure that those in charge of IT can secure the best deals from suppliers and avoid overspends and overruns - a problem identified by the recent 'Government and IT - A recipe for rip-offs report'", claimed a City University spokesman.

The MIL is an executive postgraduate course launched in 2010. It is designed to equip senior IT professionals with technological, commercial and managerial expertise.

David Chan, director of City's Centre for Information Leadership, said, "By adding Karrass to the mixture of academics and industry practitioners who already deliver the MIL, we will give our students the knowhow to avoid problems highlighted in the "rip-offs" report."

The part-time MIL is aimed at mid-career professionals with at least three to five years' experience in business-facing IT management or consultancy roles, who are seeking to progress to CIO-level or other top leadership positions.

The course has its next intake in September 2011 and is taught during one weekend each month over a period of two years.
