Northern & Shell inks managed data contract with DCG

Move is also part of meeting information security standard

Media group Northern & Shell, owner of Express Newspapers, Channel 5, and magazines including OK!, has signed what it has billed as a "major" data backup and disaster recovery managed services contract.

The group has chosen a managed data package from DCG. Ben Dyer, joint head of IT at Northern & Shell, said, "DCG are providing a complete managed solution for our entire estate, backing up global data from across the group." The aim is to help manage growing data volumes.

Dyer said DCG's holding of the ISO27001 information security standard was also critical to the contract, providing assurance to itself and its auditors that data would be securely backed up and stored, and that it could be rapidly retrieved as required.

Dyer added, "Routine backups are crucial and with the managed service provided by DCG our IT support team are on hand to focus on business priority tasks - as a result we are getting added value from the service."

The value of the contract has not been disclosed.
