Scottish Police search for £80m data management system

Single supplier sought for core IT system

The Scottish Police Services Authority is tendering for a £40 million to £80 million contract to support its National Information Management Programme.

The Authority says the contract will last between six and 12 years. An initial six year contract will be signed and the value of the work could reach around £80 million, if the deal is extended through a single six-year extension or through three two-year extensions.

The work involves the deployment of a "new modern, scalable, extensible, national ICT solution" for the Scottish Police Service, said the Authority. The IT system will support the recording, management and analysis of information, and will "minimise data management inefficiencies".

The hardware and software system will support 25,000 users across Scotland. Standard functionality will include crime and case reporting, business process management (BPM), reporting and analysis capabilities, and integration with key national policing systems.

The contract does not cover desktop computers, but may include server or networking equipment if "economically advantageous" to the Authority. The ICT system will be hosted on the Scottish Police service national infrastructure.

The Scottish Police Services Authority says the contract will be signed with a single supplier, and not broken down into lots.

The Scottish government recently awarded a framework IT services contract worth up £270 million, which will support both its own departments and the wider Scottish public sector, including police forces.

Suppliers including BT, Dell, Logica, Fujitsu Services, Atos Origin, Kainos Software, and Capita Business Services were selected to deliver portions of the contract.
