Solution providers brief Pasha Stakeholders

The ICT Board together with its partners supporting the digital villages' project held a forum with the "Pasha centers" winning entrepreneurs. The forum aimed to educate the successful loan applicants on what role they should play in increasing ICT awareness and utilization by all Kenyans.

At the forum, different partners to these projects explained the various roles they are playing to ensure the successful running of these start--ups. Diana Maire OEM Business from Microsoft enlightened the gathering on appropriate software platforms for such centres while Google talked of the various channels that can be used to connect the communities. Intel disclosed their plans to come up with education initiatives through the centres while Cisco will improve the community experience with their varied technology solutions. Telcom operators like Safaricom limited, Orange Kenya and Yu talked of their e-health initiatives.

Pasha centres are digital access centres that run on an ICT backbone to empower the rural areas and offer people in the interior parts of Kenya with internet access. The aim is to have one Pasha Centre in every constituency in Kenya.

37 applicants were approved out of 689 aspiring entrepreneurs who applied to be part of the project. The successful entrepreneurs will receive loans from Family Bank and with the help of strategic partners, the entrepreneurs shall provide various services to their communities ranging from youth training in ICT, e-library services, website development, government services facilitation, teacher training, KCPE and KCSES online registration, software development and much more.
