iPhone, iPod Touch can now access enterprise networks

'Junos Pulse is industry's first downloadable VPN app on the App Store'

Apple iPhone and iPod touch users can now remotely access their enterprise networks by using a new app available on the Apple App Store, according to networking solutions firm Juniper Networks.

"Junos Pulse App is the industry's first downloadable VPN [virtual private network] app for the iPhone and iPod Touch," said Juniper Networks service layer technologies business group executive vice president and general manager, Mark Bauhaus, adding that the application allowed anytime, anywhere secure remote access and connectivity.

Bauhaus said that when coupled with the Juniper Networks SA Series SSL VPN Appliances, users could securely access any corporate resource from the iPhone and iPod touch enabling the mobile workforce to stay connected, productive and informed while on the go.

"This app extends Juniper's footprint for SSL VPN, which is already deployed in tens of thousands of enterprises worldwide enabling more than 25 million end-users to remotely and securely connect their devices to corporate networks," he said. "The Junos Pulse App has been built for ease of use and seamless deployment so enterprises can enable their iPhone and iPod touch users to be as productive as possible."

Full support for Apple's VPN on demand

Bauhaus said Junos Pulse, which was now available for free download from Apple's App Store, also provided full support for Apple's VPN on demand. "This enables seamless VPN connectivity to iPhone users via certificate authentication when accessing predefined domains. Junos Pulse is designed to provide battery-friendly connectivity by automatically disconnecting from the VPN when the iPhone is inactive while on wi-fi, and re-establishing VPN connectivity when the device is woken up."

"Similarly, when the iPhone is idle on 3G, VPN connectivity is temporarily suspended until traffic is sent from any application, such as Safari, at which time the VPN is re-established seamlessly," he said.

"Instant and seamless secure access to corporate resources including applications, e-mail, contacts and the Intranet are all critical elements demanded by employees of any successful organisation," said Bauhaus.

"We worked with Apple to ensure the Junos Pulse App enables the productivity that enterprise users are demanding and are very excited that it is now available on the App Store," he said.
