London-based IT workers see salary hike

Recruitment agency reports 4.3% increase

The IT jobs market in the South East is holding up well, according to recruitment agency CE Screen, which says IT salaries have risen by 4.3 percent in London over the last 12 months.

CV Screen's data, which was obtained from the analysis of advertisements over the last three months of 2007 in the IT sector, also reports a 3.4 percent percent increase in the South East region, revealed in a report last week.

The report on the South East region, which looked at jobs in Surrey, Kent, Essex, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Sussex, concluded that the average IT salary in the region is £33,513.

The average permanent IT salary in London now stands at £38,577, according to CV Screen's account manager for London, Alex Lawson, who put together the survey.

"Obviously many commentators are predicting the next 12 months to be more testing but the early signs are that the IT jobs market is holding up well," said Lawson.

Account manager for the South East region, Jason Price, predicted there would be continuing skills shortages in areas such as PHP, Citrix, Net and Java in 2008.
