Lacie launches 2TB 'Extreme' hard disk

Big Disk Extreme coming to the UK

LaCie is releasing a range of desktop hard disk drives with capacities up to two terabytes.

The new Big Disk Extreme+ also comes equipped with three interfaces - FireWire 800, FireWire 400 and USB 2.0. Compatible with PC or Mac, the drives start at £269.

The external hard disk drive uses two internal drive mechanisms pre-configured in a RAID Level 0 array. The system can lay flat or upright, and can also be rack-mounted.

The drive also features LaCie's new 'Shortcut' button, which automatically launches any application including the included EMC Retrospect backup software.

Inside the drive case the mechanisms spin at 7200 RPM and feature 32MB of combined data cache.

The drives come in 1TB and 1.5TB configurations for $349.99 and $599 respectively, and a 2TB model is coming in August. In the UK, prices are set at £269, £389 and £669, respectively.
