Dell launches trialware-free Vostro range

Vostro PCs & laptops aimed at businesses

Dell has launched a new line of desktops and laptops for small businesses that will ship without 'trialware', the free and limited-use software bundled with new systems that some users hate for hogging storage space.

The new Vostro range includes two desktops and four laptops. The laptop line-up includes the Vostro 1000, 1400, 1500 and 1700, with the cheapest model costing £329. Dell says the low-end Vostro 1000 includes an AMD processor, while the others offer Intel Core 2 Duo chips.

The two Vostro desktop PCs are based on Core 2 Duos – one is a mini and the other a slim tower. The cheapest desktop model ships without a monitor and is priced at £129.

Business buyers who buy the trialware-free Vostro computers will get less cluttered systems devoid of preinstalled applications, search settings, trial editions of commercial software and icons to various technology services supplied with many new PCs.

"Customers really hated trialware," said Michael Dell, the company's CEO. "It was the most frustrating thing for customers in setting up a new computer," he added.
