Google Pack adds free security tools

Free Symantec & PC Tools apps now available

Google has added Symantec’s Norton Security Scan and PC Tools’ Spyware Doctor Starter Edition to the free Google pack download.

“Both are free and include automatic protection updates with no paid subscription required,” according to the Official Google Blog.

Launched at the Consumer Electronics Show in January 2006, Google Pack includes a number of free Google products, including Google Earth, Google Talk, Picasa, Google Desktop and the Google Toolbar for Internet Explorer. However, Google has also tied up a number of third-party apps, including Mozilla’s Firefox browser, and Adobe Reader.

The addition of Norton’s virus-scanning and removal app and PC Tools’ antispyware tool beefs up the security provisions of Google Pack, which is designed to provide basic software for Windows XP and Vista PCs.
