Windows OneCare and Vista launches coincide

Microsoft's security app to cost £38 in the UK

Windows Live OneCare will be available for purchase from 30 January in the UK, the same day that Vista launches.

The upgrade to OneCare, which will available to buy online or at retails stores, is designed to offer a simpler consumer experience, according to Microsoft.

Between 23 January and 12 February, beta customers who tested OneCare v1.5 will receive a year’s service for up to 60 percent less than the standard price if they take advantage of a special offer sent to them via email. Those who are already OneCare subscribers will automatically be updated in the next few days. In-store promotions of the service are also planned by retailers.

Jo Wickremashinghe, Product Manager of Windows Live Safety Services, said that the latest version of OneCare will not only “guard against viruses, spyware, phishing scams and other security threats” but it will also handle a “variety of essential PC care practices behind the scenes”.

Windows Live OneCare will be priced at an annual subscription rate of £37.99 for up to three PCs.
