EnergyAustralia customers targeted with scam email

Utility firm EnergyAustralia has warned customers about a scam email which claims that their electricity payment was declined by their bank.

The email asks customers to click on a website link, stating that if they do not click the link within 15 days their phone line will be cancelled.

An EnergyAustralia spokesperson urged customers not to click on the link.

"Customers should delete the email or report the scam activity to our customer service centre on 133 466. EnergyAustralia will never email customers asking for personal or credit card information," the spokesperson said in a statement.

The company has reported the scam to law enforcement authorities for investigation.
