Box brings in Yahoo! CISO to build trust

The cloud content sharing company has brought in Justin Somaini

Cloud content sharing firm Box has hired three industry veterans to help bolster its operations.

The venture capital-backed company has brought in Justin Somaini, formerly chief information security officer at Yahoo! and Symantec, who has joined Box as its first "chief trust officer".

In addition, Niall Wall, a veteran of Symantec, where he held several senior leadership roles, has joined BOX as senior vice president of business development. And Jeff Mannie has joined Box from PayPal as vice president and financial controller. At PayPal Mannie held leadership roles in finance.

Founded in 2005, Box provides a secure content sharing platform. Content on Box can be shared internally and externally. It can be accessed through iPads, iPhones, and Android and Windows Phone applications, as well as extended to partner applications such as Google Apps, NetSuite and Salesforce.

Aaron Levie, CEO of Box, said: "To succeed in the cloud everyone - users, managers and especially IT - have to deeply trust the cloud and be open to transforming the way they work. Justin, Niall and Jeff are a perfect fit with Box as they bring deep functional experience and the enterprise savvy to drive change."

As chief trust officer Somaini will be responsible for working globally and collaboratively across Box's customer base, technical operations, business development teams and partners to ensure the company is delivering on its information security commitments, including "building transparent, deeply trusted relationships with customers", said Box.
