AVG pushes mobile at 2013 Anti-Virus launch

Mobile malware is on the rise and users need to take action, says AVG

AVG is urging users to take mobile security seriously at the launch of its AVG 2013 Anti-Virus product.

The firm believes that mobile is an increasingly important segment within security with the rise of internet connected devices such as smartphones and tablets. AVG warns that the combination of a very personal devices and a maturing threat market is a deadly combination. Visit our Security Advisor

The problem comes with the rise of smartphones and tablet which, in themselves, are extremely personal devices. The desirable information stored within them is on the rise because of the large range of tasks they are used for, including social networking which is a common route of attack.

With internet connected devices comes the need for apps and AVG describes downloading apps as something of a 'national sport' with users downloading new apps even daily. Apps stores such as the Google Play Store give cybercriminals easy global reach and the malware is becoming more sophisticated, hence the increased need for protection.

The firm was the first to launch a security app for Android and is encouraging realise the need for protection and to gain it. To this end, AVG 2013 will include a smartphone protection section which points the user to download the free mobile app via email or phone number.
