HP's 'Secure Boardroom' gives execs comprehensive view of corporate security posture

HP today unveiled "Secure Boardroom," an online portal where the corporate CEO, CIO and risk officer can be presented with a view of technical and business information related to operational security.

Secure Boardroom pulls together information related to the security posture of the organization as well as tracking of investments in security, including vendor products and services, presenting it in a manner that can be understood on a business level.

The service can help security execs address questions such as, "How much money am I spending? Is it transformational?" The goal is to bring a wide range of information related to security into a central point where high-level managers make decisions, says Andrzej Kawalec, chief technology officer at HP.

HP also says it has centralized the organization and development of its security product line -- primarily Fortify, ArcSight and TippingPoint -- to advance integration and develop services around them.

In addition, HP is offering a cloud-based service for security event and information management based on its ArcSight SIEM.

In a product update for the TippingPoint intrusion-prevention system, the appliance has a filter called Web Application Digital Vaccine 2.0. When a new vulnerability is discovered in Web applications, a custom-built "virtual patch" can be put in place until a fix can be developed.

"Web applications continue to be a target," says John Pirc, senior product management with the HP network security product group. He says the Web AD Vaccine 2.0 is the result of bringing in technology from the Fortify product for software vulnerability assessment that HP acquired last year.
