Facebook users that take up the free subscription will also be entitled to a discount on a full version of the security software once the trial period is over.

"We're committed to doing everything we can to help you protect your account and make your experience on Facebook as safe and enjoyable as possible," said Facebook's Jake Brill said in a blog.
The social network also said it was ensuring any users that had their account compromised could access a McAfee scan that would identify if their PC was infected with malware and help them remove any found.
"We invest in dedicated teams and advanced technical systems that detect and block suspicious behaviour. We also work with third parties to get malicious sites added to browser blacklists or removed completely," added Brill.
Brill also urged users not to open emails or attachments from unknown sources and be wary of files they download from the web.
