UK vendor launches free antivirus, antispyware

DriveSentry Free available today

PC security vendor DriveSentry today launched DriveSentry Free, a cost-free antivirus, antispyware and HIPS technologies software suite which the company says will keep your PC free from malware.

According to the company DriveSentry Free provides free, regularly updated antivirus protection. The company has a daily updated database of 1.2m malware signatures. Any software processes that are not found on this database are subsequently checked against a whitelist, and then behavioural technology.

Should malware breach this layered defence, DriveSentry offers the user a choice of proceeding or removing the software. At this point, users have access to data regarding how many other users of DriveSentry's products have chosen to allow or deny the process.

DriveSentry Free remains free for the lifetime of the user's PC. Should they wish to, users can pay a one-off fee of £10 to upgrade to a slightly more feature-rich version of the software, that will (if the user wishes) dispense entirely with pop-ups and user interaction.

Unlike subscription-based security software, DriveSentry requires only a single fee, and is then free for the lifetime of the PC.

DriveSentry Free is available now from www.drivesentry.com.
