SanDisk intros Sansa Clip wearable MP3 player

Golf ball-sized iPod killer released in the US

SanDisk has launched the Sansa Clip in the US - a wearable MP3 player about the size of a golf ball, designed to compete with Apple's iPod shuffle. The device comes in 1GB and 2GB models for $39.99 (£20) and $59.99 (£30), respectively.

The Sansa Clip integrates a wearable clip, and unlike the iPod shuffle features an OLED display that lets you view playlists or songs sorted by title, artist, album and genre. It also incorporates an FM tuner and recorder with 40 presets, a built-in microphone so it can double as a digital recorder, and an integrated rechargeable battery good for 15 hours of operation on a single charge.

The Sansa Clip supports MP3, WAV, Audible and Windows Media Audio (WMA) file formats - it does not appear to work with AAC, the format used by Apple for iTunes, either protected with FairPlay DRM or unprotected (as iTunes Plus files are).

The Sansa Clip comes in black, red, pink or blue colors in its 2GB capacity.

SanDisk's Music & Video site had not been updated with information about the Clip as Playlist posted this article.
