Casio launches 10mp compact camera

Exilim model features improved image processor

Casio has released a second compact, stylish camera with a 10.1-megapixel CCD. The Exilim Zoom EX-Z1050 is smaller than the EX-Z1000 and features a new image processor for better-quality output.

The EX-Z1050 can capture images at 3,648×2,736, which can use larger than A4 at 300dpi. The new Exilim Engine 2.0 includes motion-analysis technology for blur reduction and anti-shake functions. It can analyse the vector and velocity of moving subjects and automatically set the ISO level and shutter speed to match. It also uses high shutter speeds and sensitivity to eliminate the effects of shaky hands, according to Casio.

Another function designed to help with moving subjects is Auto-Tracking AF, which follows motion subjects and keeps them in focus until the photo is taken. The camera can capture up to seven shots a second for high-speed continuous shooting, though this limits the image resolution to 2.0-megapixels and normal image resolution, and requires a High Speed SD Memory Card.

Though the EX-Z1050 is smaller than the Z1000, it has a 2.6in widescreen LCD display - which has a high brightness level of 1,000cd/m2 - and 3x optical zoom lens. According to Casio, the Z1050 can take up to 370 shots in one battery charge.

The Exilim Zoom EX-Z1050 is available in five colours - silver, black, gold, blue and pink - costs £195 ex VAT.

Casio has also released a new 7.2-megapixel slimline camera with the same 3x zoom lens and 2.6in widescreen LCD display. The Exilim Zoom EX-Z75 offers an anti-shake function and costs £155 ex VAT.
