CES: 'World's thinnest' 8x digital camera on show

New GE models launched

General Imaging has unveiled four new digital cameras at CES, including two super-thin 8x optical zoom models.

The GE E1486TW and E1480W are 14-megapixel digital cameras with 3in LCDs. The W model has conventional buttons on the rear, while the TW has a touchscreen. They measure 0.83in at their thinnest point, making them the slimmest 8x optical zoom cameras in the world according to General Imaging.

Both include a 28-mm angle glass lens and will be available in black, red and silver among other colours when they hit the UK market in April. The GE E1480W will cost around £149 and the GE 1486TW be priced at around £169.

Also on show at CES are new models in General Imaging's A-Series of entry-level digital cameras. The GE A1255 and GE A1455 each offer 5x optical zoom and feature 2.7in screens. The A1455 offers 14-megapixel resolution and will cost around £89 in the UK; the A1255 is a £79 12-megapixel camera. Both are due to launch in the UK in April.

General Imaging also used CES to announce a partnership with fashion designer Jason Wu, who has gained international recognition dressing First Lady Michelle Obama.

The company is working with Wu on the design of a "unique" line of digital cameras which will be unveiled during New York Fashion Week in February.
