HP brings 3PAR storage with mid-market with StoreServ

During HP's Discover event in Frankfurt, Germany, new products in the vendor's Converged Storage portfolio were announced.

Leading the announcements, which HP South Pacific storage general manager, Steve Kelly, says was the "biggest ever" for the HP storage portfolio, was the introduction of HP 3PAR StoreServ 7000.

Cloud Storage - Comparison of 30 Services

"There's a lot of things we've been talking in the market since the acquisition of the 3PAR product, and it's the next generation of the product in the form of 3PAR StoreServ," he said.

"For us, it's an evolution."

StoreServ has been designed by HP to be more accessible for businesses other than enterprises, and for this reason Kelly says it is "perfectly suited" for channel partners to sell Tier 1 3PAR storage into the mid-market in Australia.

"So while the product has been updated with new enhancements, the key thing is that it introduces 3PAR into the mid-market," he said.

Mid-market manoeuvre

Kelly admits 3PAR has traditionally been a high end storage product, though adds that it has been very successful in Australia since HP launched it just over two years ago.

"3PAR is like the gold standard for storage in the utility and Cloud storage environment, and now we're taking that Tier 1 enterprise class storage architecture to the mid-market," he said.

With the mid-market in mind, Kelly says HP made sure to build a very "channel friendly" product with StoreServ, one that is suited for its channel partners to take to mid-market customers in Australia.

"What makes it unique it is the only storage product in the market that Tier 1 enterprise class capability in the same product, whether you buy the small one or the big one," he said.

"That means our customers get a lot more choice, and our partners can also address a wider range of market with the product architecture."

In addition to StoreServ, HP has also announced other products that complement 3PAR StoreServ, such as the StoreAll archive product and also an update to our StoreOnce 2000 and 4000 backup products for data protection.
