You might think almighty Apple can get away without ever lowering its prices, given its dominant share of the tablet and music player market, not to mention its legions of fans. But the company says it will join the Black Friday fray along with everyone else on Nov. 25.
SHOPPING PREVIEW: 11 eye-popping Black Friday tablet, laptop and e-reader deals
Naturally, Apple isn't giving out any more details than that in advance, other than suggesting you visit its website to shop for ideas in advance, nor is it saying it will slip deals out on Thanksgiving Day as so many others are now doing. "You'll discover amazing iPad, iPod, and Mac gifts for everyone on your list," Apple gushes.
It's not unprecedented for Apple to have such a one-day Black Friday sale. Last year it knocked more than $100 off high-end items such as MacBook Pros, iMacs and MacBook Air machines, while iPads, iPod Touches and iPod Nanos had smaller markdowns. Figure there could be deals this time around on older models of Apple products.
Apple is known for being a stickler about retailers offering discounts on its wares, though retailers get around the restrictions by bundling tablets and other devices with gift cards. Retailer Meijer is doing just that, offering an $80 store gift card with a $499 iPad 2 with Wi-Fi (16GB).
