Build, buy, partner, and integrate -- those are Cisco's four pillars in its services strategy.
Cisco chief technology officer and chief strategy officer, Padmasree Warrior, Cisco worldwide operations executive vice-president, Rob Lloyd and Cisco Services senior vice-president, Edzard Overbeek spoke at the Cisco Global Partner Summit 2013 and outlined the company's movement in the service space.

Warrior said Cisco will continue to innovate in the services space, acquire more companies, collaborate closely with its partners and bring in third party solutions as it moves towards a broader ecosystem.
She highlighted some market transitions that are making businesses shift to the Internet of everything and generating a demand for services.
They include IT computes transitioning from a server model to a mobile Cloud model, movement of the economy from Web based to app based, as well as the change in communications.
"The shift in services is moving to outcome based as compared to just a maintenance or technology support and IT ownership is being shared by the IT departments as well as the providers of technology and we have to focus on the business value it creates," she said.
Warrior added that she expects value to be created in infrastructure, platform and application with services interwoven across them in the next few years.
"We are going to build on the foundations we have established in the datacentre, core networking, security, mobility, video and collaboration as well as technical and advanced services."
Lloyd claimed that many customers are now looking for flexibility in commercial arrangements, creating huge opportunities for channel partners.
"They want things done for them as a service. They seek an outcome-based model and want help to start from a point and migrate to another. For you, there is a huge opportunity to create services and service practices to help customers simplify how they perform," he said.
Lloyd also mentioned that now is the time for hosted collaboration services.
"We have the opportunity right now to lead in this area. We're all behind accelerating this managed service."
Overbeek said partners need to look into offering platform, consultancy and industry services and scale it to video, data, and voice in an attempt at moving towards the Internet of everything.
"You need to sit with customers, do the transitions, learn the lessons, capture intellectual property, scale out through programs and run as fast as we can as we shift through this market," he said.
In addition, Overbeek announced a further development fund to aid partners sell more smart services. Reseller rebates will be available under the Cisco Services Partner program.
Lloyd also unveiled new switches by Cisco, including the Catalyst 2960-X, Catalyst 2960-XR, and the Catalyst 3850.
