Infographic: What you need to know about LTE wireless

LTE, or Long-Term Evolution: Our collection of facts about this next generation of wireless tech will keep you ahead of the curve.

LTE, or Long-Term Evolution, is a new wireless technology that the carriers are using to connect smartphones and tablets to the Internet faster. The carriers are spending megabucks to build out their new LTE networks, which they say will pump out ten times more mobile bandwidth than older 3G networks do.

TeliaSonera launched the world's first publicly available LTE service in Oslo, Norway, and Stockholm, Sweden, in December 2009. Verizon launched the first major LTE service in the United States a year later, in December 2010.

The following infographic shows what the new standard means, and why it's important.
