Google transfers license for 3LM Android security technology to MDM vendor BoxTone

Brian Reed, BoxTone's chief product officer, said the license for the 3LM security technology for Android had been held by the Motorola division related to mobility that was acquired by Google last year. But now Google has transferred the exclusive rights to the 3LM Android security technology to BoxTone, which will continue to develop it and license it to third parties.

Is Android in the business world to stay?

The 3LM technology includes a way to provide encryption of the device and removable media, and policy-based permissions, among other features, says Reed, who adds that Google transferred the license to BoxTone without specific costs involved. Google has not responded to a request for comment.

Reed says the intent is to continue to develop 3LM technology and license it to third parties, including handset manufacturers that include HTC and LG. "We're assuming control of the technology and the functional enhancements," Reed says.
