Brisbane begins switching on to the NBN

Around 500 premises have been switched on to the National Broadband Network (NBN) in Aspley, Brisbane, with another 1700 premises to join the network in the coming weeks, according to NBN Co.

Construction has commenced on around 135,000 premises in Queensland.

Around the Brisbane area, construction on the NBN has begun in Ascot, Banyo, Bridgeman Downs, Carseldine, Collingwood Park, Eagle Farm, Goodna, Hamilton, Hendra, Northgate, Nudgee, Petrie, Kallangur, Redbank Plains, Slacks Creek, Virginia and Zillmere.

By mid-2015, construction on 678,000 premises is expected to have commenced or been completed.

Fibre services in Coffs Harbour, NSW were also recently switched on, with around 2600 premises now able to sign up for fibre NBN services in the region following the first NBN cable being laid in the area in November last year.
