Netgear A/NZ managing director, Ryan Parker, has left his post after five years at the helm and more than 10 years at the company.

According to industry insiders, Parker, who is highly regarded in the channel, decided it was time for a new challenge and career change, a move similar to his predecessor, Ian McLean.

Parker started at Netgear in 2001 as the territory manager role for Queensland, Northern Territory and New Zealand. He was then appointed director of service providers business in 2003 -- a position he held until 2007 when he was appointed to the managing director post.

Prior to Netgear, Parker worked as a networking business development manager at Ingram Micro for one year, and before that was the IT services team manager and regional operations manager for reseller and integrator, Future Group, for seven years, based in Maroochydore, Queensland.

With more than 19 years in the A/NZ channel, Parker has experience across all facets of business management, sales, marketing, operations and support.

According to the company, Netgear Inc vice-president of sales, Americas and A/NZ commercial business unit, Hien Nguyen, will take over the managing director post until a replacement is appointed.

In other company news, Netgear plans to buy the AirCard unit from Sierra Wireless for $US138 million. Sierra plans to exit the mobile add-on business (personal wireless modules) in order to focus on machine-to-machine (M2M) technology.

ARN contacted Parker for details of the resignation, and for his next steps, but he did not respond by press time.
