Phones 4U will piggyback on EE's network

4G smartphone network

Phones 4U has announced that it will launch a virtual 3G network on EE's infrastructure with 4G LTE to come.

The service, called LIFE Mobile, will launch in March and will give consumers more choice over which network they use. Phones 4U said it will offer a wide range of tariffs and services including data packages as standard. See: What is 4G? A complete guide to 4G.

Tim Whiting, Group Chief Executive at Phones 4U, said: "We are delighted to be extending our longstanding partnership with EE in order to add LIFE Mobile to the extensive range of products and services available at Phones 4u."

"LIFE Mobile will enable us flexibility and creativity in designing propositions to give our customers even further choice."

The network will initially launch as 3G only on EE's infrastructure with 4G LTE to be added some time later in 2013. See also: 4G vs 3G network hands-on speed test.

Full details of the LIFE Mobile tariffs and services will be available over the next few weeks. Customers will be able to sign up online and in all of Phones 4U's stores including the store-in-stores inside Currys and PC World.

Marc Overton, Vice President of Wholesale at EE, said: "Our ambition is to provide 4G to key industry players by the end of 2013, and we feel this will open up a world of opportunities for both new and existing partners alike."
