How to uninstall apps from an iPhone or iPad

Remove software you no longer use

With literally thousands of apps in the iTunes app store, iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch users, might find themselves a bit download-happy when it comes to installing third-party software on their smartphone.

However, the initial flush of love for apps may see you downloading software that you use once and never open again. Alternatively, you may have downloaded games (Angry Birds anyone) which you've completed. Subsequently, they're taking up valuable space on your phone's memory.

In just a few steps you can wipe the apps from your memory, freeing up space on your smartphone . Here's how to do it.

Step oneOn the Home screen, press and hold down any app.

Step twoThe app icons should all now begin to 'wobble' and a small black 'X' will appear in the corner of each app. Touch the 'x' on the app you want to delete.

Step threeYou'll be warned that this action will remove the app and delete all of its data. Press 'Delete' and the app will be removed from your phone.

Step fourPress the Home button (the one in the centre at the bottom of the device) to stop the icons moving. It's worth noting you can only delete the apps you've added yourself. Those that came pre-installed on the handset can not be removed.
