Ice Cream Sandwich brings enhancements including extra lock screen functions like accessing the notification bar and resizable widgets on the home screen. It also has data usage controls with a customisable limit and the recent apps multitasking capability.

Sony has also added three new apps to the Xperia S: Walkman, Album and Movies. The Walkman app combines music with social features like sharing and access to Facebook. Album is a more fluid way of browsing photos and videos, also with Facebook integration.

"The 'Movies' application streamlines the playback and viewing of movies in high quality audio and video, whilst using intelligent database search to grab movie posters and information for a richer experience." said Sony.

Users will get a notifcation when the update is available and can download it over-the-air (OTA). Alternatively, Xperia S owners can use Sony's web-based Xperia Update, PC Companion or Bridge for Mac.
