Nokia Lumia Cyan update Windows Phone 8.1

The new operating system is being gradually released on a global scale but is only available for some handsets to begin with. Nokia says the update will make Lumias more personal, fun and indispensable. Read: Nokia Lumia 630 review.

Key features of the Cyan Windows Phone 8.1 update include Action Center and a third row of live tiles on the homescreen. The former brings long awaited notifications and quick settings to the mobile operating system.

Although the update includes Cortana, it is available in the US only with other regions to get it later this year. Other new features consist of a WordFlow keyboard, which provides swipe gesture typing, an upgraded Internet Explorer 11, and device search.

Exclusive Lumia features which other Windows Phone handsets won't get – not that there are many – are an enhanced camera app, the Nokia Device Hub, updated Storyteller app and the ability to install apps to microSD storage.

Owners of the Lumia 1520 or Lumia Icon will also get even more camera improvements such as low light performance and better audio by way of Nokia Rich Recording and Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 sound.

How to upgrade to Windows Phone 8.1 Cyan

Although the rollout has started, the software may not be available for your specific device. It will take a number of weeks for the upgrade process to be completed. Your phone will automatically check for updates so simply wait for the notification and upgrade when it's ready. You can chack manually by heading to settings, then phone update.
