The O2 Wireless festival is going paper free.

At this years event you'll be able to use your mobile to swipe into the music festival thanks to NFC (Near Field Communication). If the trial is successful, 02 believes it will mean cash may not be needed at all at music festivals, enabling drinks and food to be bought using your mobile phone.

O2 Wireless festival tickets can be downloaded to festival goers’ mobiles which they then swipe to gain access to the event. NFC technology will also be implemented into Swarovski studded wristbands to allow VIP guests to enter backstage areas.

As well as being convenient, the NFC system would be environmentally friendly. But security issues could arise - if the phone gets into the wrong hands, entry to events and money stored on the device could be accessed.

Mobile ticketing has been expanding at the festival and this year £200,000 worth of tickets for the festival have been sold through mobile ticketing, doubling the figure for the previous year.

Using Upload Hypertag technology 02 will also enable content such as festival photos and clips to be uploaded and downloaded from mobiles to large screens at the event.

Phone users will be rich, male and educated
