UK Apple iPhone users access mobile media more than users of other smartphones, according to new research from ComScore. Overall, 93 percent of iPhone users accessed media in January 2009.

According to the report, 75.4 percent of iPhone users accessed email during the month, more than doubling the 35.4 percent usage of other smartphone users.

iphone ukNews accessed from a web browser was 79.7 percent for iPhone users, while 48 percent of other smartphone users did the same activity.

The App Store is clearly popular for iPhone users, too. Fifty-five percent of users accessed news through an application downloaded from the App Store, while only 22.1 percent of other smartphone users accessed news from a third-party application.

In fact, iPhone users handily beat out smartphone users in every category. Social networking (iPhone 54.8 percent, other smartphones 29.6 percent); Weather (iPhone 55.5 percent, other smartphones 26.1 percent); and web search (iPhone 55.1 percent, other smartphones 31.9 percent), were also measured in the report.

ComScore said that 55 percent of mobile media consumers are male, and 65 percent are between the ages of 18-44. Twenty-three per cent of mobile media users own a smartphone; and 3.5 percent, an iPhone.
