Apple has been hit with a class action lawsuit by a US woman who claims the iPhone's 3G network is slower than advertised.

Jessica Alena Smith has filed a ten-page complaint alleging Apple to have breached expressed and implied warranty and "unjust enrichment".

Smith refers to the phone throughout her complaint as the "defective iPhone 3G", and argues that Apple's current ad campaign is misleading.

"Defendant intended for customers to believe its statements and representations about the Defective iPhone 3Gs, and to trust that the device was 'twice as fast at half the price'," the lawsuit says.

The lawsuit comes at a bad time for Apple, as iPhone 3G users suffer patchy connectivity and instability when making or receiving calls, despite the recent introduction of an Apple update to repair the same.

Smith wants Apple be ordered to repair or replace all defective devices and pay unspecified damages, interest, and attorney's fees.
