UK phone users send 217 million text messages a day, according to the Mobile Data Association (MDA). That's a massive 60 million more texts now than 12 months ago.
And it's not just txts: there are now 1.5 million picture and video messages being sent each day.
According to the MDA report, the growth can be attributed to a variety of fresh devices and a the changing nature of the market. Commenting on the report today, Steve Reynolds, Chairman of the MDA, said: "New mobile phones, with easy to use software, and creative tariffs from the mobile networks, are encouraging people of all ages to use more of their functionality - from music, video and pictures to email communications."
The report is based on quarterly research findings for UK mobile phone activity from July to September 2008. Around 6.5 billion texts are now sent each month in the UK, a year-on-year growth of 38 percent.
