iPhone software update reveals ARM chip

Apple also reveals iPhone accessory range

Apple has released a software update for the iPhone and confirmed its initial range of accessories for the device.

iPhone Firmware 1A543a is available through iTunes for users who may need to restore their device to factory default settings.

The update reveals a number of details about the device, including its use of a 620MHz ARM1176JZF processor. The processor manufacturer hasn't been widely known until now.

Apple's range of iPhone accessories has also been confirmed. These include an iPhone Bluetooth Headset, an iPhone dock or iPhone Dual Dock (which recharges both the phone and a Bluetooth headset).

Spare headsets, a TTY adaptor, power connector and power adaptor are also available.

The company has also confirmed the iPhone should work with most available iPod accessories - but warns that these devices may cause interference when making a call using iPhone.

When you connect an accessory that isn't branded as 'Made for iPhone', the device will offer to turn itself over to Airplane Mode, which switches off the communication capability of the iPhone while it's connected to that accessory.

"This means that you'll avoid potential audio interference, but you'll be unable to make or receive calls. If you choose not to enter Airplane Mode, you can make and receive calls, but you may experience some audio interference," says Apple.
