Apple 'iPhone' is official

Steve Jobs reveals innovative new handset

Apple has finally lifted the lid on its ‘iPhone’ mobile phone, after Steve Jobs revealed the first official details of the new handset during his Macworld Expo presentation.

Rather than using a keyboard or a stylus, the new device uses a new “multi-finger gesture” touch technology called Multitouch. "We're going to use the best pointing device in our world," said Jobs. "We're born with 10 of them, our fingers."

As well as offering iPod-like functionality, the ‘iPhone’ acts as a “breakthrough internet communications device”, according to Apple's chief exec.

It includes a 2.5in colour screen and is just 11.6mm thick. It also includes a 2-megapixel camera, a speaker, microphone and iPod dock connector.

More details to follow.
