CES: LG to launch Shine mobile phone

Successor to popular Chocolate handset

LG will give the successor to its popular Chocolate mobile phone its international unveiling at next week's CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas.

The Shine handset is a slider-type phone that has been available in South Korea since October. It features a 2Mp (megapixel) camera and is priced in South Korea at about 600,000 won (£329). LG had said the phone would be available internationally in the first quarter of 2007, so the launch at CES is in keeping with that forecast.

LG will be hoping that the Shine is a similar success story to the Chocolate phone: it is expected to report sales of about six million units of that model in 2006. The Chocolate launched in Europe in May and in North America in August.

The company is expected to unveil the phone at a news conference in Las Vegas on Sunday at 8 am local time.
