In-store AT&T sales of Lumia 1520 start Nov. 22 for $200 and contract

Windows-based Nokia smartphone has 6-in. display and beefy processor and battery

AT&T will start in-store sales of the new 6-in. Nokia Lumia 1520 on Nov. 22 for $199.99 and a two-year contract.

The Windows Phone 8 phone was briefly listed on a MicrosoftStore.com Web page as shipping a week earlier, on Nov. 15, but Microsoft quickly removed the Web page and said the posting was premature.

The updated Microsoft Web site lists the device in three colors (black, white and red) and offers a free black flip cover and a $50 app card when customers pre-order the device. A yellow version listed earlier is not included.

The device is also available unlocked for $549, and to eligible buyers for $27 a month..

AT&T is the exclusive U.S. carrier for the new device, and began taking pre-orders on Nov. 8.

A link to AT&T's Lumia 1520 pre-order site wasn't working early Monday. , but it can be found by navigating from the AT&T home page: www.att.com.

The Nokia 1520 could help boost the Windows Phone platform's global market share above 3%. It offers features that are competitive with other large 5-in.-plus screen phones, sometimes called phablets, which now make up 22% of all smartphones shipped.

The 1520 has a quad-core 2.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and can work over five LTE network bands. It has a full HD display at 1920 x 1080 pixels off a density rating of 368 pixels per inch. A 3400 mAh battery and 20 megapixel rear and 1.2 megapixel front cameras are included.

AT&T is currently selling a 16 GB version, while other 32GB versions are being sold internationally. AT&T will begin selling a 32GB version in the near future, according to a Nokia spokesman. The 1520 has a microSD card slot that supports up to 64GB of added storage.

It is the first Nokia Lumia shipping with a General District Release 3 of Windows Phone 8, which has features like drive mode and rotation lock.

Nokia and Windows Phone devices face competition from more phones in a fall selling season than in any recent year. Just this week, Motorola is set to announce a Moto G smartphone running on Android on Wednesday. It is reportedly a low-priced entry-level version of the Moto
