Expo Notes: Goal Zero solar power recharging kits

At Macworld/iWorld, Goal Zero is showing off its new Switch 8 Recharger. The $120 device has two parts: a Nomad 3.5 solar panel for capturing energy from the sun, and a Switch 8 Recharger, a Lithium-Ion battery that holds the charge.

The Recharger has a USB port, so you can connect an iOS cable and charge your iPhone, iPad, or iPod. Goal Zero says it takes about 5 hours to fully charge the Recharger's battery using a solar panel. The Recharger also has a USB port to charge its battery.

Goal Zero also demonstrated its new $250, a 50 watt-hour portable battery with ports for USB and 12V. It has a port designed for PC laptops; it's not compatible with Apple's MagSafe adapters. The Sherpa 50 can use one of Goal Zero's solar panels to charge its battery, or you can plug it into a power outlet.

Goal Zero is a booth 333 at Macworld/iWorld.
