RIM to launch smartphone straight after BlackBerry 10 event
RIM will launch its BlackBerry 10 operating system today and the Z10 smartphone will be available to purchase immediately afterwards, according to The Verge. The BlackBerry Z10 will go on sale at 5pm in the UK after the launch event on Vodafone. See also: RIM BlackBerry 10 will determine firm's fate as a premier mobile device player.
It's possible the Z10 will only available online at 5pm today. Pocketlint reports that Vodafone stores in London won't be selling the device until tomorrow (31 January). We'll be at the launch event later today so be sure to join us via the link below.
In the case of Vodafone, the Z10 will launch in just black with a white version coming mid-February. The handset will take a microSIM and only launch on pay monthly contracts at first, with pay as you go to follow at a later date.
Customers will be interested to know that the BlackBerry Z10 won't need a specific tariff for internet access, email and the BlackBerry Messenger service. It will just come with a regular smartphone price plan.
Phones 4U will also be selling the Z10 but not until tomorrow. It will supposedly be the only retailer to have the white model at launch. The Carphone Warehouse and O2 simply state that new BlackBerry 10 handsets are coming soon.
BlackBerry 10 is widely regarded as RIM's last attempt at regaining its market share after a difficult time under competition from Apple and Google with iOS and Android. The fact that BlackBerry 10 has been delayed numerous times hasn't particularly helped but we hope RIM has something decent to show us.
